How to Style a Hairvine with a Side Ponytail: A Step-by-Step Guide

Adding a hairvine to a side ponytail is a fantastic way to elevate your hairstyle, whether for a wedding, special event, or just a chic everyday look. Hairvines add a touch of elegance and can transform a simple ponytail into a stunning, sophisticated style. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you achieve the perfect look.

1. Prepare Your Hair

Start with clean, dry hair. You can add volume and texture by lightly teasing the roots or using a volumizing mousse. Brush through your hair to remove any tangles. If your hair is straight, consider using a curling iron to create loose waves. This will give the hairvine something to cling to and add more dimension to your ponytail.

2. Create the Side Ponytail

Decide which side you want your ponytail to be on. We decided to do a braid to make it more secure. For a more polished look, use a comb to smooth out any bumps or flyaways. Secure the ponytail with a hair elastic.

3. Secure the Ponytail

To ensure your ponytail stays in place, wrap a small section of hair from the ponytail around the base and secure it with a bobby pin. This step gives a more finished appearance and hides the hair elastic. If you have layers, you may need to use a few bobby pins to keep everything neat.

4. Choose the Right Hairvine

Here we used our Plum Blossom Hairvine because it’s flexible and was easy to curve around the base of the pony. Choose a hairvine that complements your outfit and the occasion. But also ensure that it will be easy to put in and take out of your hair.

5. Position the Hairvine

Gently place the hairvine on top of your side ponytail where you’d like it to sit. The best position often depends on the design of the hairvine. If it has a central focal point, position it where it will be most visible. If it’s more of an all-over design, you can place it further back or slightly to the side.

6. Secure the Hairvine

Use bobby pins to secure the hairvine in place. Start by pinning down the ends of the hairvine and work your way to the center, making sure it’s firmly attached and not shifting.

7. Adjust and Secure

Once the hairvine is in place, adjust its positioning to make sure it’s sitting exactly where you want it. Use additional bobby pins if needed to secure any loose sections of the vine or to ensure it doesn’t slide out. If you have longer hair, make sure the hairvine doesn’t interfere with the ponytail’s natural flow.

8. Finishing Touches

To complete your look, lightly spray your hair and the hairvine with a strong-hold hairspray. This will help keep your style in place throughout the day or evening. If you have any stray hairs, use a small amount of styling gel or hairspray to smooth them down. For a polished look, you can use a flat iron to tame any last-minute flyaways.

9. Review and Adjust

Take a final look in the mirror to ensure everything is in place. If you’re wearing your hairvine for a special event, consider taking a few photos to check how it looks from different angles. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure it complements your side ponytail perfectly.

10. Enjoy Your Style

With your hairvine securely in place and your side ponytail looking fabulous, you’re all set to enjoy your day or night. Whether you’re attending a wedding, a formal event, or just adding a touch of glamour to your everyday look, your hairstyle will undoubtedly turn heads.

Tips for Success:

  • Practice First: If you’re not used to styling with hairvines, practice the look a few times either by yourself or with your hairstylist before the actual event to get comfortable with the process.

  • Coordinate with Accessories: If you’re wearing other accessories, like earrings or a necklace, make sure they complement your hairvine for a cohesive look.

  • Consider Hair Type: Different hair types may require different techniques. For example, fine hair might need more bobby pins or a bit of texturizing spray to help hold the hairvine.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to seamlessly incorporate a hairvine into your side ponytail, creating a stunning and elegant hairstyle that stands out.
